Mayra was born in Michoacán Mexico and has lived in the U.S since the age of 10. She received her Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fresno majoring in Biology with an emphasis in Anatomy and Physiology with a Minor in Spanish and Physical Science in 2015. She then received her Master’s degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling (MFCC) as well as her Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in 2021.
She believes everyone can overcome their struggles with the proper support and understanding. She feels confident about sending a welcoming message where everyone is validated, empowered, loved, and connected. Therapy is a slow process that requires a degree of patience and adaptability, which are qualities she possesses and given her professional and personal experiences, she feels confident that she can help you heal. Her goal is to help empower you by uncovering past traumas that prevent your ability to live life to the fullest.
She completed her internship at the Integral Community Solutions Institute (ICSI) where she worked with clients from diverse ethnic backgrounds, many of which were Spanish-speaking and maintained a steady caseload of children and adult clients. Her training has focused on childhood trauma, loss and grief, depression and domestic violence. She also completed her hours for her PPS credential at Ezequiel Tafoya Alvarado Academy (ETAA), which is a charter school located in Madera, California serving children from TK (transitional kindergarten) to 8th grade. She has an integrated theoretical approach which includes, Experiential Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Person-Centered Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She is also in the process of completing her EMDR certification.
As a Latina AMFT, she is culturally competent and understands cultural nuances that influence behaviors and treatment outcomes in therapy. She can fluently communicate in both English and Spanish making the therapeutic process appropriate to your individual needs.
She offers both in person and Telehealth appointments for new clients.
